Stainless steel step ring packing is a new type of open-hole packing developed by the British Mass Transfer Company. The step ring absorbs the advantages of the Raschig ring and improves the ball ring. Its height is about half of the diameter. Compared with the ball ring, a conical flange is added at one end, a window hole is opened on the ring wall, and a curved blade extends to the center of the ring. Due to the reduced height and the special structure of the conical flange, it not only improves the gas-liquid distribution in the packing layer, but also increases the gas-liquid contact points, which is conducive to the convergence and dispersion of liquids and the continuous renewal of the membrane surface, so that the mass transfer is enhanced and the separation efficiency is greatly improved.

Generally, the flux of the step ring packing can be increased by 10-20% compared with the ball ring packing, and the pressure drop is reduced by 30-40%. The separation efficiency is improved to varying degrees depending on the specific process. So far, more than 1,000 step ring packing towers have been used in absorption, steaming and distillation operations around the world. Depending on the specific situation, the step ring can replace the Raschig ring, ball ring, bubble plate, float valve plate and sieve plate to achieve the purpose of high efficiency, high yield and energy saving.


Characteristics of stainless steel step ring packing:

(1) Reduce pressure drop:

The stainless steel step ring has large gaps and large flux in the path of gas-liquid flow, which can effectively reduce gas pressure drop.

(2) Increase the capacity of the reaction tower:

The increase in the capacity of the reaction tower is the direct reason for the reduction in pressure drop. The stainless steel step ring keeps the reaction contact away from the pressure drop contact accompanied by overflow, which means that more gas and liquid can be processed and the capacity of the reaction tower is increased.

(3) Enhance anti-fouling ability:

The directional position of the stainless steel step ring makes the gap in the direction of gas-liquid flow reach the maximum value, so any solid scale can pass through the packing layer with the gas-liquid flow.

(4) Improve reaction efficiency:

The stainless steel step ring ensures that its ring surface is vertical rather than parallel to the maximum extent. This design is more advantageous in mass transfer. Because the reaction efficiency depends on the size of the contact surface. The parallel surface design will prevent the inner side of the ring from contacting the liquid, thus forming a dry surface. The dry surface has almost no effect in mass transfer, but the vertical design of the stainless steel step ring greatly reduces the possibility of dry surface, thereby effectively improving efficiency.
