Stainless steel ball ring packing is a new type of packing, punched from metal sheets, which is an improvement on some of the main shortcomings of the Raschig ring. Two rows of window holes with inward-extending tongues are opened on the wall of the Raschig ring. Each row of window holes has five tongues, each of which bends inward and points to the center of the ring. They are almost overlapping at the center. The positions of the upper and lower layers of window holes are staggered. Generally, the total area of the openings is about 35% of the entire ring wall area. Since the ball ring packing has many window holes on the ring wall, the gas and liquid in the tower can pass freely through the windows. The main difference between it and the Raschig ring packing is that there are rectangular window holes on the side wall, and the window blades of the window holes are bent into the center of the ring. Due to the opening of the ring wall, the distribution performance of gas and liquid is greatly improved compared with the Raschig ring, especially the inner surface area of the ring can be fully utilized. At present, ball ring packing is one of the main annular packings used.
Characteristics
Characteristics of stainless steel ball ring packing:
Ball ring packing has the advantages of large flux, small resistance, low pressure drop, high separation efficiency, good liquid distributor and large operating flexibility. Under the same pressure drop, the processing capacity can be more than 50% larger than that of Raschig ring. At the same processing capacity, the pressure drop can be reduced by half, and the mass transfer efficiency can be increased by about 20%. Compared with Raschig ring, this packing has the characteristics of large production capacity, strong resistance and large operating flexibility. Under normal circumstances, the processing capacity can be 50%-100% larger than that of Raschig ring at the same pressure drop, and the pressure drop can be 50%-70% smaller than that of Raschig ring at the same processing. The tower height also has a pressure drop. The use of ball rings can reduce the packing volume by about 20%-40% compared with the Raschig link.

Stainless steel ball ring packing is widely used in various separation, absorption, desorption devices, atmospheric and vacuum devices, synthetic ammonia decarbonization and desulfurization systems, ethylbenzene separation, isooctane/methylbenzene separation, etc.
