The bubble cap tray is the earliest tray used in industry. There are many round holes on the tray plate, and a short tube is welded on each round hole, called a riser. A "hat" is placed on the tube, called a bubble cap, and there are many strip holes around the bubble cap. When working, the liquid flows from the upper tray to the lower tray through the downcomer, and then crosses the tray plate horizontally and flows into the next tray; the gas rises from the lower tray into the riser, passes through the annular channel and then flows through the strip holes of the bubble cap to the liquid layer between the bubbles.

The structure of the bubble cap tray/plate ensures that the tray is basically leak-free. When there is a large fluctuation in gas and liquid, it can still maintain an almost constant plate efficiency. The tray is not easy to clog and has a large operating flexibility. It is selected when the tray is required to be leak-free or the liquid phase load is very small.

The bubble cap tray is one of the earliest tray types used on a large scale in industry, with mature design methods and operating experience. It has good gas contact, a large operating flexibility range, and is resistant to oil pollution and not easy to clog.

Bubble tray/plate product features:
The structural feature of the bubble tray is that the tray is equipped with a bubble with a riser; the gas phase and the liquid phase are separated, and the height of the liquid layer on the tray is not supported by the air flow. Therefore, unlike some trays, there is no serious leakage during operation. It can maintain stable operation within a wide range of gas-liquid load changes. Because the liquid layer on the tray is deep, the gas and liquid can have close contact for a long time, which improves the efficiency of the tray.

Advantages: sufficient gas-liquid contact, large mass transfer area, high tray efficiency; large operating flexibility, can still maintain high efficiency when the load changes in a large range; has high production capacity and is suitable for large-scale production; not easy to clog, wide range of medium adaptation, stable and reliable operation.

Disadvantages: complex structure, high cost, troublesome installation and maintenance; large gas phase pressure drop.
