The Rasching ring was developed by F. Rasching in 1914. It is one of the first bulk packings with a fixed geometry to be invented. It was the first tower packing to be developed and one of the earliest man-made packings used in industry. Usually made of ceramic or metal sheet, its height and diameter are equal, the common size of 25mm ~ 75mm (also as small as 6mm, as large as 150mm). Ceramic wall thickness of 2.5mm ~ 9.5mm, metal ring for 0.8mm ~ 1.6mm, in the case of strength permits, the wall of the ring should be as thin as possible.
